In spring, new fan-shaped, lobed leaves emerge a creamy white with a burst of green rays emerging from the base of the leaf. We've been growing this one now for several years and have seen no reversion. As the season progresses the leaves develop yellow tones and mature to green with streaks and blotches of the white. Some leaves might remain more white as they were in spring. To prevent the variegated leaves from discoloring, plant this one in morning sun with shade or filtered sun in the afternoon. Evening sun is okay, but avoid direct afternoon sun. Too much shade though and leaves may be more green. As with other Ginkgo, fall brings the brilliant yellow leaf color. We nor anyone else knows what the ultimate size of this one will be. With a growth rate of 6 to 10 inches per year we think it might reach 10 feet in 10 years and ultimately 15 feet or more in height and maybe 8 to 10 feet wide. This would make it a good selection for small to medium size garden spaces and containers. Landscape & Garden Uses Growing slowly to an estimate of around 12 to 15 feet tall and 6 to 10 feet wide, the Snow Cloud Ginkgo is ideal for growing in containers or as an accent tree in small garden spaces and home foundation plantings. Also excellent for rock gardens. When planted near a patio or other outdoor living spaces it is sure to be a conversation piece! Suggested Spacing: Best as a specimen Growing Preferences First, to prevent the variegated leaves from discoloring, plant Snow Cloud Ginkgo where it will receive morning sun with shade or filtered sun in the afternoon. Evening sun is okay, but avoid direct afternoon sun. Too much shade though and leaves may be more green. One of if not the easiest trees to grow, the Ginkgo adapts well to adverse growing conditions in urban areas. It is remarkably free of diseases, is insect resistant, and exceptionally drought tolerant when established. It adapts well to most soil types, even clay, and won't be bothered by moist or dry soil conditions. Soil pH is of no concern as Ginkgo trees perform well in both acid and alkaline conditions. Avoid pruning other than to remove damaged branches or lower branches to expose more trunk. Plant Long & Prosper! Meet The Wilson Brothers & Staff Questions? Contact Us!
