Description
A diminutive little catmint with lots of flower power, 'Little Trudy' features spikes of warm purple flowers from late spring through early fall that contrast beautifully with the finely textured grey-green foliage. The butterflies and beneficial pollinators will thank you for the flowers, but the deer and rabbits will turn their noses up to it. At only 8 to 12 inches tall and spreading to 18 inches wide, Little Trudy is a fine accent for smaller garden spaces and containers, or in groupings or as a low border in landscape and garden beds. Great near sunny patios and other outdoor spaces where the fragrance can be enjoyed from close up.
Interesting Note
When the stems of Nepeta are broken they release an aroma that cats are attracted to, hence the common name Catmint.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 8 to 12 inches tall and 15 to 18 inches wide, Little Trudy Catmint is ideal for use as an accent in smaller garden spaces and containers, or in groupings or as a border around patios and garden beds or along paths and walkways. Plant it near patios, decks, porches and other outdoor living areas where the fragrance and the pretty blue flowers can be enjoyed from close up. A natural choice for herb gardens and a fine addition to coastal areas, fragrance gardens, purple theme gardens and rock gardens.
Growing Preferences
Little Trudy Catmint is easy to grow in most any somewhat loose and moist to somewhat dry soil of average fertility and full to mostly sun to part shade. It will tolerate dry periods, but flowers best with a moist soil, but does not like constantly soggy or wet soil.
