Always wanted a Colorado Blue Spruce but haven't had room? Meet Picea pungens 'Fastigiata', commonly called Columnar Colorado Blue Spruce, a strong growing selection that might reach 15 feet tall and 5 feet wide at its base. Its narrower form makes for a fine vertical focal point providing incredibly soothing blue color and texture where space is limited. An excellent choice for those narrow spaces in home foundation plantings. Extremely cold hardy to -50F, drought tolerant when established, and very low-maintenance.
Landscape & Garden Uses
The Columnar Colorado Blue Spruce is ideal for use as an eye-catching specimen is tight landscape spaces and home foundation plantings. Also suited for containers. Its dense and pyramidal form make for an excellent outdoor Christmas tree. It is highly tolerant of urban pollution and will even thrive in inner city environments. A very welcome addition to the conifer garden, blue theme garden, rock garden and Xeriscape (low water needs).

Growing Preferences
The Columnar Colorado Blue Spruce is very easy to grow and low maintenance. It is adaptable to most soils however does not like constantly soggy soils, which can be problematic. Dry or consistently damp to moist but well-drained soils are preferred. At least 7 hours of direct sunlight per day is suggested. It is drought tolerant when established and you might be happy to know that deer won't touch it.
