Typically it grows only a few inches tall and spreads to form a ground-hugging mat, but this high-graft tree form features a straight trunk from which feathery sprays of deep blue-green foliage will gracefully cascade downwards like a waterfall. The foliage turns a purplish-blue hue during the winter months and shows attractive tiny blue berries from late spring through late winter. You can let the foliage weep to the ground or easily keep it trimmed up to a desired height. An excellent specimen for small garden spaces or to accentuate an entryway, or in pots that can be situated on patios, decks and around other outdoor living spaces. Landscape & Garden Uses The Blue Rug Juniper Tree is ideal for use as a specimen in small garden spaces or in containers that can be situated on patios, sunny balconies, terraces, decks and around other outdoor living and sitting spaces. A fine addition to conifer gardens, blue theme gardens, rock gardens and the Xeriscape (low water needs). Suggested Spacing: Use as a specimen or 3 to 4 feet apart for spaced groupings Growing Preferences The Blue Rug Juniper Tree is easy to grow in most any well-drained soil of average to low fertility. It can also be grown in pots, planters and other containers. As with so many other ornamental plants, constantly soggy or wet soil can cause root rot and other harmful plant diseases. Best in full sun however will tolerate some light shade. We suggest at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day. No pruning is required though it responds well to it. If left unpruned the foliage may weep all the way to the ground and begin to spread horizontally. However, with a little snipping once or twice a year you can easily keep the foliage trimmed up to a desired height.
