From mid or late summer in into fall, abundant and showy 12\" long vertical panicles packed with nectar-rich bright yellow daisy-like flowers are perched atop erect, sturdy, branchless stems 3 to 5 feet tall clothed in bright green, lance-shaped leaves up to 6 inches long. The clump slowly spreads by underground rhizomes to maybe 3 feet wide, much like many ornamental grasses do.
