Constantly soggy or wet soil can be problematic. So make sure to plant in a well-drained site. Brief periods of flooding won't cause problems provided the soil is well-draining. If you live in an area that can experience long rainy periods it's best to plant Pomegranate on raised beds or mounds. The soil pH tolerance for Pomegranate is wide as well. They will grow in moderately acid to moderately alkaline soils that range from 4.5 to 8.2 on the pH scale, so pH usually isn't a concern.

Sun Preferences: The best and most pomegranate fruits will be produced when plants are growing in full sun. The zones are based on the average annual minimum winter temperature, divided into 10 degree F zones. That said, due to that any specific location can experience an unusually cold winter, where temperatures drop below the typical average indicated in the USDA Zone Plant Hardiness Zones data, the zones are not always 100% accurate. Therefore, in USDA Zones 6b and 7 we suggest providing some winter protection for your Russian 26 Pomegranate tree. A 3 to 4 inch layer of mulch will help protect the roots during winter. Mulch can be thinned to 1 to 2 inches when temperatures warm in spring. Planting your Russian 26 on the east side of a home or in a location where it will be sheltered from north and western winds will also help to provide protection during the cool season.

For more helpful tips see: How To Protect Plants From Cold Weather

Helpful Articles

Click on a link below to get helpful advice from our experts on how to plant and care for Pomegranate bushes or trees.

How To Plant A Pomegranate Bush Or Tree

How To Prune A Pomegranate Bush Or Tree

How To Fertilize & Water A Pomegranate Bush Or Tree

How To Make A Pomegranate Tree To Produce More Fruit

Plant Long & Prosper!

Meet The Wilson Brothers & Staff

Questions? Contact Us!

A very healthy plant arrived, after a cross country trip in the middle of summer. When I got the trees they looked very healthy and didn’t appear to have suffered any stress from the shipping. Would definitely buy from Wilson Bros again!--------------------------------------------We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy them for years to come! Thanks for the great review! :) Beth Steele | WBG

Thank you so much for delivering this "tree" so quickly. It was for me Daughter-in-laws Birthday - She is delighted with it!-----------------------------We are so glad yall are so pleased with your purchase! Thanks for the great review! Beth | WBG :)

I've been very impressed by the quality of these pomegranates. I ordered my pomegranates from Wilson Bros at the same time as a few other trees. The shipment from Wilson Bros arrived earlier than the others, and in a better state. The pomegranates arrived dormant, but have been putting out vigorous growth for the last month and a half, with no signs of slowing. No signs of transplant shock. The leaves are gorgeous, and I'm impressed with the quality of the plants. I will definitely order more of my plants from Wilson Bros in the future.---------------------------------------------------------We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy them for years to come! Thanks for the great review! Thanks for the kind words! :) Beth Steele | WBG

I purchased these trees for an early Christmas present for dear friends of mine. They called to tell me they were thrilled & the packing for shipment was so great not a leaf was out of place. Very healthy plants and they look forward to watching them mature and bear fruit!
I cannot begin to say what a wonderful company you have, Wilson Bros. & Gardens have never let me down. You have set the bar so high not a single Company can even compare to your great trees & plants & the efforts to provide the best possible experience for your clients.
Thanks so much & Best Wishes for the future,
Carol A. Johnson-----------------------------------Oh wow!! We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you and your friends enjoy them for years to come! Thanks for the kind words and great review! :) Beth Steele | WBG

First of all I love that shipping is included in the prices, so no hidden surprise at checkout. I purchased a 1 gallon plant which arrived healthy with thick main trunk. I am really hoping it will survive in my zone, its hardiness is yet to be tested here in North NJ. If it does die I will be back for an update but so far 5 stars on shipping, plant size, and health.-----------------------------------We are so glad you are pleased with your purchase! I hope it does well over the Winter! Thanks for the great review! Beth | WBG :)

We recieved both pomegranate trees sooner than expected. The packaging that Wilson Brothers uses has to be the best in the industry. The plants are packed so that it minimizes damage to them. These arrived packaged the same way. When we opened the box we were so excited not only to receive the pomegranate's but the quality of those plants. They ate absolutely one of our favorite looking plants. They are so healthy and are very gorgeous looking plants as well.
Thank you Wilson Brothers for continuing to impress us with such beautiful plants.
Sincerely
Daryl Levesque-----------------------------------We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy them for years to come! Thanks for the great review and such kind words! :) Beth Steele | WBG

Beautiful Plants! Healthy, sturdy and transplanted great. Haven't shown any sign of slowed growth.-----------------------------------We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! Thanks for the great review! :) Beth Steele | WBG

I live in zone 8b and already grow Wonderful Pomegrantes with mixed results. Wonderful die back when I get a second freeze in late winter/early spring. The main issue I have is growing them as shrubs vs trees because of the die back. The strong spring winds knock most of the immature pomegranates from the plants because of the spindly limbs. I have high hopes to be able to grow this particular pomegranate as a stronger single limbed tree which would solve the fruit wind loss problem. It's growing just fine so far. I only put four stars on the review since I won't know if this works for another year or two.--------------------------------Thanks for the good review! Beth | WBG

I just wanted to let you know these came and are beautiful and intact :)
Thank you!-------------------------------We are so glad you are pleased! Beth | WBG

The shipping party or rough with handling which knocked a little bit of the soil loose, but the Packers done such a good job the plant was not disturbed. All in all a good healthy plant as always!

I was a worried as the plant got delayed in the shipping process after being picked up from Wilson Bros.. Despite it taking over a week to get here, the plant arrived in good shape and wasn't dried out. Once unpacked you could not tell it was even shipped as in perfect condition.--------------------------------------------------Hi Pablo, Thanks so much for taking the time to provide your review of the Russian 26 Cold Hardy Pomegranate.
